Granny squares gone crazy!!!

So, this is my next project:

It’s from a book, but I found at the purl bee. It’s the Babette Blanket.

Right after my Ripple Blanket is done, or I get too bored to go on, I will start this one. It will be perfect for my kid’s play room. The couch there is just begging for some tlc… and there is no $$$ for new covering, so with some raw cotton fabric (the one you can bleach all you want) for cover and this on top, it’s gonna look great!!! The room also serves as my husband’s office, but he won’t mind (much). Ah… can’t wait…

I love this! Especially in these retro colors. It looks like it is made up of different sized granny squares. I do wonder though, how they got the layout right so that all the sides were even.

My sister just loves the artwork of Gustav Klimt and this blanket reminds me a lot of it. My sister’s the easiest person to get gifts for, though; I always have 10 ideas of things to get for her but no idea what to get my own husband, lol.

I think they do that-thing-with-water-i-don’t-remember-what-is-called first, them set them up on the floor or another surface of enough size and try to get them right. if its not even, you can go back and enlarge them, or make new squares… back when I actually worked with drawing (instead of just thinking about it as I do now) I had this series where I filled space with squares, much like this. i started whit some big ones, distributing them along the space, then some medium ones, fitting them around the big ones, and decreasing size until I had it all filled up… I will try and take some pictures of them…

When are you going to start? I am lining my yarn up right now. So hard, 17 colors! It would be fun to CAL together.

Oh, how I covet this blanket! I want to learn to crochet just so I can have one! (I also so a fantastic throw and scarf in the Garnet Hill catalog and want to crochet so I can have it too. $400 for a blanket was too hard to swallow.)

My yarn store did this in a varigated yard, one shade for each square and joined the squares together with black. Looks like stained glass! A spin to an awesome pattern!
